Show answers and working
1. Perimeter 34 cm, area 60 cm²
Perimeter = 12 + 5 + 12 + 5 = 34 cm. Area = 12 × 5 = 60 cm².
2. Perimeter 34 cm, area 66 cm²
Perimeter = 6 + 11 + 6 + 11 = 34 cm. Area = 6 × 11 = 66 cm².
3. Perimeter 38 cm, area 70 cm²
Perimeter = 5 + 14 + 5 + 14 = 38 cm. Area = 5 × 14 = 70 cm².
4. Perimeter 28 cm, area 33 cm²
Perimeter = 3 + 11 + 3 + 11 = 28 cm. Area = 3 × 11 = 33 cm².
5. 16 cm²
Area = ½ × base × height. ½ × 4 × 8 = 16 cm².
6. 156 cm²
Area = ½ × base × height. ½ × 24 × 13 = 156 cm².
7. 4 cm²
Area = ½ × base × height. ½ × 4 × 2 = 4 cm².
8. 70 cm²
Area = ½ × base × height. ½ × 14 × 10 = 70 cm².
9. Area 153.9 cm², circumference 44 cm
Area = πr² = π × 7² = 153.9 cm². Circumference = 2πr = 2 × π × 7 = 44 cm.
10. Area 50.3 cm², circumference 25.1 cm
Area = πr² = π × 4² = 50.3 cm². Circumference = 2πr = 2 × π × 4 = 25.1 cm.
11. Area 314.2 cm², circumference 62.8 cm
Area = πr² = π × 10² = 314.2 cm². Circumference = 2πr = 2 × π × 10 = 62.8 cm.
12. Area 380.1 cm², circumference 69.1 cm
Area = πr² = π × 11² = 380.1 cm². Circumference = 2πr = 2 × π × 11 = 69.1 cm.
Worked examples
A rectangle is 15 cm by 8 cm. Find its perimeter and area.
- Perimeter = 15 + 8 + 15 + 8 = 46 cm.
- Area = 15 × 8 = 120 cm².
- Answer: Perimeter 46 cm, area 120 cm²
A triangle has base 18 cm and height 8 cm. Find its area.

Common mistakes
What learners typically get wrong, and how to fix it.
Mixes up area and perimeter.
Correction: Perimeter is a fence (around), area is grass (inside).
Uses the slanted side as the height of a triangle.
Correction: Height must be at right angles to the base.
